Peer Lab
Welcome to the Peer Lab
at the University of South Carolina!
The Peer Lab focuses on adolescent social development and well-being: assessing the positive influence of supportive relationships, leveraging peer and near-peer supports to disseminate scalable programming, and partnering with school and social systems to promote equitable mental health care.
"Supporting teens supporting teens"
In her second year of graduate school, a public speaking professor asked Dr. Costello to articulate her research goals in a single digestible phrase. At the time, she came up with the idea of "supporting teens supporting teens" - and the Peer Lab continues to be driven by this sentiment. Our goal is to understand healthy relationship processes in adolescents and young adults and use this information to equip young people with the skills, autonomy, and empowerment to enact meaningful change and develop rewarding relationships.
